An AHA Moment…Chemicals and Food Don’t Mix

An AHA Moment…Chemicals and Food Don’t Mix An AHA Moment…Chemicals and Food Don’t Mix

It was quite a few years back now when I had one of those “AHA” moments. You know that sudden realisation that something so simple and so obvious had somehow escaped my rational mind and the way I lived my life every day. Chemicals and food don’t mix.

It suddenly dawned on me that the thought of eating food that had been heavily sprayed with chemicals was literally insane and surely if we could physically see the pesticides and chemicals, would we really eat something containing poisons?

Just imagine this conversation…

“Hi Robert, how are you today? Gosh, the apples look great today. Do you know are they covered with leftover herbicides, fungicides and insecticides which could potentially make me or my family sick? They are. Great. I might grab an extra kilo”.

Eating organic food seems so natural now I wonder how on earth I didn't do this my whole young adult life. It also aligns perfectly with some pretty cool universal principals I like which makes it all the more perfect. Firstly, every action has a reaction so surely eating food with chemicals will have some affect and consequence (think negative) and secondly, the Law of Common Sense. It just doesn’t make sense to eat toxic chemicals. Simple.

Organic Tomatoes

Eating organic food also takes me back to my roots and childhood. I have such fond memories of eating fresh fruit and vegies from Mum’s garden as Mum was always an organic gardener even though labels like this didn't exist. I remember warm carefree Summers and eating juicy bright yellow clingstone peaches straight from the tree. Mum filling her apron with bright red tomatoes and her little joke of "I'm just off to the market" as she would head outside to the garden with a big empty bowl to pick more beautiful vegies for our dinner that night. So for me, it's like the universe is all in sync now and it all makes sense. This is the way it should be.

Thankfully, it also seems that our medical world may be catching on. An article in The Age on Saturday 15th February 2014 reported linking brain development disorders such as autism, dyslexia and ADHD to the chemicals in our food and environment. In my opinion, there is just not enough research being done in this area (but that's another story) so every little piece in the media like this is like gold as it really helps to educate and raise awareness in our community and hopefully the next sound I hear is the collective sweet ring of “AHA’s”.
